# I have a Google Earth file (KML/KMZ)

> I have a Google Earth file (KML/KMZ) — Polygon One

Convert KML/KMZ to GeoJSON before importing plots. Use QGIS locally on your computer as the default.

1. Keep the original. For KMZ, first export its plots as KML in Google Earth.
2. Open the KML locally in QGIS. Export the plots as GeoJSON in WGS 84 / EPSG:4326; the linked GIS guide explains the steps.
3. Reopen the result. Check that every expected point or plot appears in the right place. A line is not an area.
4. Upload the GeoJSON in the geodata section, then review and confirm the import.

For non-confidential data, you can use [geojson.io](https://geojson.io) if the data provider and customer permit a browser converter: “Open → File”, check locations, then “Save → GeoJSON”. **Do not use browser converters for confidential plot data or data your customer restricts from such processing.**

Conversion produces a file, not saved plots or proof of compliance. Preserve the source precision; do not add invented digits.

If plots are missing, the file contains only an image or export fails, ask the data provider for GeoJSON in WGS 84. Simply changing the file extension does not convert it.
