The short answer
Polygon One has three different weights in three different places. They answer different questions:Example: a wood-and-glass picture frame, 1.2 kg total, including 0.7 kg wood:
- Article → Weight per piece (kg) =
1.2 - Bill of materials → Wood frame row, Weight (kg) =
0.7; Glass pane row, Weight (kg) =0.5 - DDS → Quantity (kg) = the complete picture frame’s net mass without packaging: 1.2 kg per frame multiplied by the piece count
1. Weight per piece (kg) on the article
This is a conversion factor, not confirmation of EUDR compliance. If an order line contains a piece count but no quantity, Polygon One calculates kilograms aspiece count × weight per piece. This applies to manual order creation, order import and the API. An explicitly supplied quantity in kg takes precedence; it is not multiplied by piece weight again.
The field is optional. Leave it empty if you already import orders in kilograms.
It is available when creating or editing an article and as the kg/piece column in the article list. In the article import, the column is Weight per piece (kg).
Missing Weight and Later Changes
Without piece weight, an order with a piece count can initially be saved with 0 kg, with a missing-weight notice. That is not a usable DDS quantity. Add the piece weight and reopen DDS preparation: these 0-kg lines are recalculated from piece count and the current piece weight. Changing article weight does not retroactively recalculate stored positive kg quantities. Explicitly review and correct the affected order and DDS quantities. Article weight must be greater than 0. An empty field in the edit dialog clears it; an empty weight cell in article import keeps the stored value. For decimal marks, follow the article import file-format rules.2. Weight (kg) per material in the bill of materials
Enter the material’s share here. The bill of materials describes the composition of a composite article: one row per material, with an HS code or commodity group and an optional weight. The BOM determines the article’s EUDR classification in Polygon One: if any material is relevant, the article is marked EUDR-relevant. A pending manual material review remains pending. Weight is optional, must be at least 0 when supplied, and documents composition; it confirms neither origin nor compliance.Material weight is not automatically transferred to the DDS. The BOM documents material shares. DDS preparation can prefill quantities from an order; review them or enter the quantity yourself. The BOM is not used to calculate that quantity.
3. Quantity (kg) in the DDS wizard
This is the weight actually transmitted to EU TRACES. It is required for Import and Export DDS: submission is impossible without it. The quantity is the net mass of the relevant product without packaging covered by the DDS. For 1,000 picture frames weighing 1.2 kg each without packaging, enter 1,200 kg — not only the 700 kg wood share. The European Commission explains quantity reporting and supplementary units. Check the product, HS code, unit and net mass together before submission. What if one article contains several EUDR commodities?
If one article contains materials from several EUDR commodity groups, such as wood and rubber, Polygon One displays Multiple EUDR commodities detected. The article stores a primary commodity for DDS creation. Additional material groups do not automatically become separate DDS positions. Record the material shares and review how the product must be represented before creating its DDS. The notice does not mean additional commodities or their evidence can simply be omitted. It concerns one composite article; it is not a general statement about DDS with several article positions.Other quantities on an order
In addition to Quantity (kg) and Piece count, the order import has two columns used exclusively for the DDS:
These values supplement rather than replace the quantity in kg. See Incoming DDS.
